Careers

At McColl Turner, we have earned the distinction of providing over 60 years of service excellence because we operate on the firm belief that numbers aren’t all that count. Our ability to uphold our high standards is accomplished by having the very best in resources, in particular our people.

Our team is a collection of approximately 30 professionals, students and support staff. We have students, including full and part time and co-operative program placements, registered in the CA and CGA programs.

We offer students a first-rate combination of diverse clientele and an in-house mentoring program. Our growing client base includes individuals, professionals, entrepreneurs, businesses (manufacturing, distribution and service sectors), not-for-profit organizations, and educational institutions. This provides the student with exposure to a wide array of business and financial situations. Our focus is to provide hands-on experience in order that students experience all aspects of our engagements. As students develop, their responsibility progresses from completing specific tasks to accepting accountability for entire files. We believe that this approach provides an excellent complement to any student’s educational program.

This approach has resulted in a high rate of success for our Uniform Final Examination ("UFE") writers. Since 1990, 28 of our finalists have successfully written and passed the UFE - representing a first attempt pass rate of 88%. We are proud of the fact that Mr. Douglas Allison, the 1999 Ontario gold medallist standing fourth in Canada, completed all of his practical training requirements with our firm. In 2001, Mr. Greg Edwards, who also completed all of his practical training requirements with our firm placed 12th in Ontario.

Our financial assistance program for CA students consists of support for the Ontario Institute’s Staff Training Program and School of Accountancy. We also assist with the cost of UFE and School preparation courses. UFE fees are paid for successful candidates and first-time writers receive paid leave for the 4 exam days plus 6 additional study days. Students enrolled in the CGA program receive financial support upon successful completion of each course and are provided with a paid leave for each exam day.

We also offer a practice that is committed to using current technology. Our computer hardware is reviewed on an annual basis and includes notebooks available for use out of the office. Our software toolkit includes extensive use of Office, CaseWare/CaseView, Doc-It and Taxprep.

We offer a sociable work environment that is also progressive, challenging, and team-oriented. Our competitive compensation packages include comprehensive benefits such as health, dental and vision care coverage. The premiums for these benefits are fully paid by the firm. In addition, we provide flexible working hours and ‘Fridays off’ in the summer.
